Horde is official frontend of Kolab 2.0

This is not really new, but I doubt that many people know that Horde will be the webclient for the upcoming Kolab 2.0 release.

Kolab is an Free Software Groupware Server originating in the Kroupware project.

Instead of developing their own browser frontend, the Kolab project decided to utilize the current development code of the Horde Application Framework with its groupware and communication applications. Horde already provides all features that you expect from a decent groupware solution and that are available through other clients from the Kolab server, like shared resources (calendars, task lists, notes, IMAP folders) or scheduling features.

Stuart Bingė from the Kolab project was granted CVS access to the Horde sources and created native Kolab drivers for the adapted Horde applications during several months. He benefitted from the abstract architecture of the Horde Framework that allows to easily plug in new drivers, and the huge amount of class libraries that he could reuse, because Horde like Kolab builds on well established standards like LDAP, MIME, or iCalendar.

Currently used Horde applications include IMP - the webmail client, Turba - the address book, Ingo - the email filter frontend, Kronolith - the calendar, Nag - the tasklist manager, Mnemo - the notes application, and Passwd - the password manager. Once Kolab 2.0 goes final, Horde and its applications will be available through Kolab's package system.
